A Symposium on Love
We will think together, carefully, and with love.
I’m writing to announce a new offering: a New Philosophy Symposium on Love.
The idea is to have 5 sessions of 90 minutes each for a small group (logistical details below).
We will think together, carefully, and with love.
About what?
Well, love, of course. But there’s no syllabus right now, and there won’t be until after we start.
You see, instead of guessing what you might want to think about, or deciding what you should want to think about, I’m going to take the radical step of letting you decide that for yourself.
So, in the first session, I will ask: Why are you here? What questions are you hoping to answer? What issues do you want to make progress on? What are you hoping for from coming to a philosophical symposium on love?
Based on those answers, I will create a program for the remaining 5 weeks, one that will respond address the questions that have brought you to the group.
Regarding those questions - please don’t come if your questions are purely academic / theoretical. This group is not a place for people to think clever thoughts or show off how much they’ve read.
This group is a place for people who are grappling in their lives with questions around love, questions that arise and matter in their lived experience, and who hope that maybe philosophy might be able to help them a little (or are by now so desperate that they're prepared to give even philosophy a chance).
Here are the practical details.
Dates: 14.4, 28.4, 5.5, 12.5, 19.5 (Mondays for 5 weeks starting 14th April, with a week off for Easter Monday)
Time: 13:00 - 14:30 Central European Time
Venue: Online
Price: Free
Places are limited and will be filled on an ongoing basis.
If you’d like to join this group, please send me a brief note at this email address telling me a little bit about why you’d like to participate (a few sentences is fine).
Also, if you want to attend, I’d be grateful if you could please commit to attending for all five sessions.
Don’t hesitate to write if you’d like more information, and please feel encouraged to forward to people who might be interested.
Yours,
Pranay
