Lehrhaus: 1st Semester Details
In which I do some admin
I have been thinking rather hard thoughts about Plato recently.
Academy, eh? Easy enough for you, I mutter. Tell a couple of friends, announce it in the Agora, buy a bit of land, and hang up some papyrus announcing the launch of an academy. Job done. Bet you didn't have to write a single email.
Whereas I, dear reader ... whereas I ...
I set out with these grand visions of a community where we search for truth and wisdom together, of spaces where people truly meet, of the disciplined and passionate search for knowledge about things that really matter. And I still have that vision and that's still what I'm hoping to participate in creating with you.
But it turns out that you have to do an awful lot of admin to get there. Emails, links, calendars, community forums, more emails. Even a school as elegantly ascetic as The New Philosophy Lehrhaus requires, I am now realizing, a mountain of paperwork.
Bloody Plato.
Anyhow, dearly beloveds, I have done some administration, and here are the results.
There's a one-stop shop on the site with all relevant info about the first semester - course and group descriptions, times, how to sign up, etc: https://www.thenewphilosophy.com/lehrhaus/
And here's a quick version. The semester currently contains 5 offerings:
- The Global and the Local (a course by Bharath Vallabha)
- 2 Salons (one is sold out, email me if you're interested in the other),
- Magic Sessions: Experiences of Love (if you want to present, email me; if you want to participate without presenting, you can sign up here.),
- A reading group on Charles Taylor's magnificent book Sources of the Self (sign up here).
I'd like to particularly draw your attention to the course by Bharath, which is going to be great. If at all you can drop in, do!
And though I already said it, I'll say it again - if you fancy sharing something for the magic sessions, get in touch.
If you have questions, suggestions, need more information - please email me. I will eventually reply, I promise (the wheels of my inbox turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine).
